Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Anyone participating in fishing activities must have a valid Alaska sport fishing license. One-day licenses are available for visitors and can be purchased online before your trip. For non-resident anglers, anyone 16 years of age or older must possess a valid fishing license before fishing in any Alaskan Waters. A one-day fishing license and be obtained for low cost if you only plan on fishing for one day of your trip. See our fishing license buying guide for instructions to purchase.
Do you provide fishing gear?
Yes. We provide rods, reels, tackle, and other necessary fishing equipment. We also provide waders and boot for trips where we may get out of the boat to fish, or on rainy days, the waders will keep you dry from the chest down.
Can beginners join your trips?
Absolutely. Some of our favorite guests are people who have never fished before. We enjoy teaching beginners and helping first-time anglers catch their first fish while experiencing Alaska's beautiful rivers and lakes.
What fish can I catch?
Depending on the trip and season, you may have opportunities to catch Arctic grayling, northern pike, rainbow trout, burbot, Arctic char, and other Interior Alaska species. Salmon Fishing in the interior can be very regulated, and all depends on salmon count, most years the Alaska Department of Fish & Game releases emergency orders to prohibit fishing for salmon in the interior rivers.
What should I bring?
We recommend weather-appropriate clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, a camera, and a valid fishing license if you plan to fish. My go-to clothing for a summer trip is pants to wear under your waders, a sweatshirt or some type of insulating layer, and a rain jacket/windbreaker to wear over top of the insulating layer.
Are your trips family friendly?
Yes. Our trips are great for families, children, and anglers of all experience levels. We strive to create a safe, fun, and memorable experience for everyone.
How many people can go on a trip?
Most of our summer boat trips accommodate up to four guests. Contact us if you have a larger group and we can discuss options. We would be happy to figure out a way to accommodate your entire group.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is always our top priority. If weather or river conditions create unsafe conditions, we may reschedule or cancel the trip.
Is catching fish guaranteed?
No guide can guarantee fish, but we use over 20 years of local experience to put you in productive areas and give you the best possible opportunity for success.
Where do your trips depart from?
Departure locations vary by trip. Chena River adventures typically depart from the Nordale Road Boat Launch near North Pole, Alaska, while Delta Clearwater trips depart from the Delta Clearwater State Recreation Site near Delta Junction.
What is special about Arctic grayling?
Arctic grayling are one of Alaska's most iconic freshwater fish and are famous for their large, colorful dorsal fins. While they are common in Interior Alaska, they are relatively rare across much of the world, making a trip to Alaska one of the few opportunities many anglers will ever have to catch one.
Can non-fishing guests come along?
Yes. Many guests join primarily for the scenic boat ride, wildlife viewing, and Alaska wilderness experience. It's common for people with little or no interest in fishing to discover they love it once they start catching fish. For anyone aboard the boat that does not have a fishing license, they will not be permitted to touch a fishing rod, tackle, or any of the fish we catch, this means no pictures with the fish as well.
Will we see wildlife?
Wildlife sightings are common but never guaranteed. Moose, beavers, ducks, geese, and other birds are frequently seen on our Chena River trips.
Do you offer transportation?
Transportation may be available depending on the trip and your location. Contact us before booking to discuss options.
When is the best time to fish in Fairbanks?
Fishing opportunities exist throughout the summer and winter. Arctic grayling fishing is excellent during the summer months, while winter offers unique ice fishing opportunities for species like burbot, Arctic char, and rainbow trout.
